Amazon Nova also arrives in Europe

Amazon announced a few days ago that Amazon Nova, the new generation of artificial intelligence models, is coming to Europe.

In the press release previewing this innovation, Amazon reminds that AWS customers can use inference profiles for Amazon Nova’s comprehension models in the EU (Stockholm, Frankfurt, Ireland, Paris) and Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Seoul, Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney).

This allows customers to benefit from the most innovative inference profiles. They operate across regions and enable requests to be automatically routed to Nova across multiple macro zones. At the same time, priority is assigned to the region of origin to minimize latency. Such an approach provides significant cost efficiency contributions. In fact, there are no additional routing charges, with billing based solely on the region of origin of the request.

Available Amazon Nova Models

Currently, three models are available:

• Amazon Nova Micro. A text-only model that delivers responses with the lowest latency at very low costs.
• Amazon Nova Lite. A low-cost multimodal model. It is very fast in processing images, videos, and text inputs to generate text output.
• Amazon Nova Pro. A high-performance multimodal model with the best combination of accuracy, speed, and cost for a wide range of tasks.

Amazon also highlighted that its models support:

• Over 200 languages
• Text and image optimization
• Integration with proprietary data and applications through Amazon Bedrock functionalities.

“Within Amazon, we have about 1,000 generative AI applications in motion, and we’ve had a bird’s-eye view of what application builders are still struggling with,” said Rohit Prasad, SVP of Amazon Artificial General Intelligence, in the press release. “Amazon businesses are using our new Amazon Nova models to tackle these challenges today. The models provide our teams and external developers with compelling insights and content generation, while also delivering significant advances in latency, cost-efficiency, personalization, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), and agent capabilities.”

The advantages of the new models arriving in Europe

Amazon also summarized the benefits of the Nova models coming to Europe.

Speed

Amazon Nova models are fast and designed to be easy to use with a customer’s systems and data. Nova Micro, Nova Lite, and Amazon Nova Pro were 75% less expensive than the best-performing models in their respective intelligence classes within Amazon Bedrock. They are also the fastest models in their respective intelligence classes in Amazon Bedrock.

Integration with Amazon Bedrock

All Nova models are integrated with Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service that makes high-performance FM models from leading AI companies and Amazon available through a single API.

By using Bedrock, customers can easily experiment and evaluate Nova models, as well as other FMs, to determine the best model for an application.

Retrieval Augmented Generation

Nova models are integrated with Amazon Bedrock’s knowledge bases. They support Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), which allows customers to achieve a high accuracy rate by basing responses on the organization’s data.

Optimization for Agentic Applications

Nova models have been optimized to make them easy to use and effective in agentic applications, which require interaction with an organization’s proprietary systems and data across multiple APIs to perform multi-step tasks.

Several AWS partners and customers are already leveraging the capabilities and cost-effectiveness of the Nova models. Among them are SAP, Deloitte, Palantir Technologies, Cognigy.
