Amazon Mystery Boxes, discounted purchases for unclaimed packages
It’s the new trend that’s taking over social media. Buying Amazon packages blindly and then unboxing them in a live stream to show the surprise – hopefully positive – of the content.

Fortunately, unboxing enthusiasts have had plenty to enjoy. Recently, they gathered at the Roma-Est shopping center on Via Collatina and, after a patient wait, attended the first Italian date of the blind sale, the blind sale of those lost and unclaimed Amazon packages in Europe and… sold by weight. Prices start at €1.99 per 100 grams for generic packages, rising to €2.79 per 100 grams for Amazon ones.

How the unclaimed package sale works
The sale of unclaimed Amazon packages is quite simple. Those admitted to the blind sale have a few minutes to walk around the shelves and feel the packages. Then, they can choose which ones to buy, until stocks run out. It seems that the average spend for participants is about €100.
The core of this project is the startup King Colis, which conceived and managed the program. On the company’s website, it is mentioned that, previously, once the recipients were reimbursed, lost packages were destroyed by the logistics platforms responsible for transportation.
However, King Colis thought it would be better to buy them. And, later, resell them by weight, without knowing the contents. By the way, those who cannot attend the blind sales but want to hunt for bargains can try to buy them on their website for around €200 for 10 kg. Currently, online sales are suspended because the packages are sold out, but new supplies are expected.

Of course, no one can guarantee that there’s actually a rich surprise behind a package. In fact, according to what’s read on social media, disappointments are more common than rewards.
However, the desire for surprise and an environmentalist vocation aimed at recovering lost packages is positively contributing to the platform’s boom.
Will Amazon’s mystery box phenomenon be a boom that lasts, or just a passing trend?
